In Seoul there seem to be more and more studio apartments being built all the time. In the United States there are not nearly as many one-room apartments. There are many more one- and two-bedroom apartments. Often people will live alone in a one-bedroom apartment, but people often also live with people they don't know. It is much cheaper to share an apartment, so often people will put ads in the paper for roommates. This is especially popular among college students who are usually on a budget. Most of the time it works out pretty well, but sometimes you do hear about roommate nightmares.
