Grounding a child (¾ÆÀÌ ¿ÜÃâ±ÝÁö ½Ã۱â)

For the next few weeks, I'm going to explain some punishments that are common in the United States. One of the most popular (among parents - not among children) is grounding a child. When a child behaves badly or gets a bad report card, parents often tell them that they cannot leave the house except to go to school. Usually this punishment lasts for a week or two. Often it means that children cannot come over to play either, but some households may be different. Here are some sentences that parents might say using this word:

You came home after curfew. You're grounded for 2 weeks.

I hate to ground you, but I have no choice. You got an F on your report card.

You're grounded for one month, mister!
