Just as in Korea, weddings are huge events in America. Many couples have an engagement party just after they get engaged. For the engagement party the couple usually invites their closest family and friends to a dinner banquet. Then a few weeks before the wedding, the woman's friends will usually throw a wedding shower for the bride-to-be. All the bride's friends and all the women in the family will get together and bring presents for the couple.
