Here’s one that has become very common in the technology field. Originally you used to hear this one a lot on the TV show “Mission Impossible” because all the spies had to work together at one time. Timing was very important, so they had to “synchronize watches.” All of them set their watches to the same time. Now synchronize is used for the exchange of information between two devices as well. When I hit the “synchronize” button on my PDA then it syncs with my computer; exchanges all of the information. The short form, “sync” is also used a lot for product names, and even the name of a certain popular boy band in America.
