What operating system does your computer use?
My operating system keeps crashing.
I wish they would come up with a good alternative OS.
A computer needs basic software to run all the other software. That basic software is called an operating system. There are very few choices in operating systems nowadays. You’re probably reading this on a computer run on a Windows operating system (that’s why Bill Gates is so rich). A few others include Apple’s Mac OS 10 (used a lot by designers and artists in Korea) and Linux (a totally open system that you can program and change any way that you want to). We often say “OS” instead of saying the full “operating system.”
